We’re excited to share the fantastic highlights from Berkeley Springs Pride’s inaugural Youth Gala, themed “Love is Love,” held on February 24, 2024! This awesome event welcomed teenagers in grade 8 and above from various nearby schools (as well as homeschoolers). Berkeley Springs Pride created a vibrant and inclusive space for young individuals to have fun with their friends, celebrate their identities and embrace diversity.
Upon entry, guests were welcomed by a red carpet photo op spot, then checked in their cell phones so they could enjoy the present moment through the evening. They then walked through a giant rainbow balloon arch into a room filled with oversized lawn games, drawing stations, and other fun things to do. They were greeted with Shirley Temples in plastic champagne flutes (a nod to the opening toast at our formal adult gala each year), an amazing array of snacks including a cheese board (because every good party has a cheese board!), and a whole table filled with CANDY and to-go bags for the end of the night. In the next room, a DJ was spinning (is that still the term?) hits requested by the attendees when they registered. There was also a photo booth for capturing fun moments with friends!
One of the most memorable aspects of the Youth Gala was the absence of a dress code, allowing attendees to express themselves freely in casual or formal attire. The result? A dazzling array of outfits that truly showcased the unique personalities of our young guests. We were thrilled to present three Best Dressed awards – “Cutest Casual,” “Fabulous Formal,” and “Most Colorful” – with each winner receiving a trophy and a gift card to local businesses, generously provided by our community sponsors. In addition to celebrating fashion and individuality, the Youth Gala featured exciting door prizes also generously donated by local businesses. From gift certificates to fun merchandise, there were many prizes to be won! Plus, every attendee received fun, little giveaways including stickers and glow sticks, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated all night and then take home, promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness both at the event and in the future.
The best part was admission to the gala was completely free! Berkeley Springs Pride organized the event and footed the entire bill so ALL teens could enjoy an equally wonderful evening knowing that they are each an important member of our community.
But it all wouldn’t have happened without our youth planning committee who requested the event, helped plan it, and designed the posters themselves. Their dedication is what made this event!
